Today The Fuggles make their worldwide theatrical debut! For those of you who don’t know me {MJ} I’m a little crazy about my Shih Poo’s Asher and Lanie Lou. I’m a busy mom to 2 boys, 2 puppies and I wear a lot of other hats in my life. Today I’m going to share with you one of my fabulous finds for keeping my puppies well taken care of.

Tiny Pup Cleanup Mobile Grooming Unit!

Lisa, Master Groomer of over 20 years, operates the Tiny Pup Clean Up. It is a lifesaver for me! I simply call Lisa when I’m ready for my dogs to be cleaned and groommed. If I don’t reach her, she returns my call within 24 hours. We schedule an appointment and she shows up with everything she needs to take care of The Fuggles!

Lisa escorts one Fuggle at a time out to her doggie spa parked in my driveway. It is a private stress free environment with no other dogs around to hog her love. She carefully gives a professional haircut, making sure all “parts” are tidied up, clips the nails, and cleans the ears. She then moves on to the hydro massage bath and cleans them with specialty shampoos. Once they are dried and fluffed she finishes them off with a mink oil conditioner and dresses them up with bows and/or bandanas. This process is done with special care and takes about an hour per dog.

So good to have some pink in my house!

While my pups are with Lisa, I’m busy inside doing whatever it is I am up to for the day. Writing articles for SEEK, cleaning my house, or taking my own shower! I feel safe knowing that they are in the care of Lisa and her clean, air conditioned, or heated mobile spa.

Ah, the glory days of summer are coming to an end. It is bittersweet for sure! We have definitely enjoyed our fair share of lazy days, sleeping in, hanging out by the pool, snacking by the pool, a few bowls of summer ice cream and a relaxed routine. But, it is time. Time to get back to school and get back to a regular routine. For many of us it is a time to get back to a regular exercise schedule as well! This summer we have missed our Fit Club group at Proehlific Park terribly! We just did not have the motivation for a summer workout without the accountability and support of this awesome and faithful group.

Good news! Fit Club will live on starting August 30th at 9:30 am!  More Good News…we’ve added childcare too!

We just have to brag a few minutes on how great this class has been, and we know everyone who has participated will agree whole heartedly. It started as a vision to create an environment in which people could come and work out no matter what their physical fitness level was.  A place to lift each other up, encourage each other and challenge ourselves. We also did not want it to be the same old class day in and day out. Proehlific provided us with 3 different instructors and they changed it up each week!

From January through May we met 3 times a week. We rocked it out. We lost pounds and inches on the outside and strengthened our hearts and muscles on the inside. We changed our eating, we compared notes and we did it together!

We would like to invite each and everyone to check out all the specifics and get registered for the next Fit Club Session on the Proehlific Park website. And a great big thanks to Proehlific Park for all their awesome support of SEEK and this group! Thanks for listening to our vision and making it a reality!

This is one of the easiest meals you can ever make. It looks way harder than it is, but trust me when I say that you can do this and it’ll be delicious. Here’s the quick breakdown: cut up vegetables, toss with oil and seasonings, put the chicken on top of the vegetables, season, and put it in the oven for an hour. Done. Now go read the real version and make it for dinner tonight!

Roast Chicken with Vegetables

• two carrots, peeled and cut into big chunks
• two red potatoes, cut into big chunks
• one medium onion cut into chunks
• two chicken breasts with the skin and the bone
• two sprigs of fresh rosemary, chopped

If you’re serving more than two people, double or triple the number of vegetables, and feel free to use the whole cut-up chicken rather than just the white meat. Cooking time is the same.

In a big roasting pan or casserole dish, toss your chunked vegetables with a few drizzles of extra virgin olive oil, a few pinches of salt, a few cracks of pepper, and half of the rosemary.

Now place the chicken SKIN SIDE DOWN in the pan. Drizzle the bottom of the chicken with olive oil, and season with salt, pepper, and rosemary. Now turn the chicken with the skin side up, and oil and season that side as well. Easy enough so far, right?

Now put the pan in a preheated 400 degree oven for an hour. Rock. It. Out. That’s it!!! The chicken should be done by then (you can use a thermometer or cut into it a bit if you’re freaking out), but unless you have Aunt Bea’s oven, an hour should be perfect.

This recipe makes people who don’t think they can cook think they can cook. For real. Try it. I know you’ll love it.

Just a sampling of this wonderful and beautifully illustrated book, Faces of the Earth,  highlighting the unique characteristics of several animals around the world – all of whom currently reside at the Natural Science Center in Greensboro!
NATSCI Educational Resource Coordinator, Elizabeth Almy was inspired to write this book based on her personal experiences interacting with these animals.  A self-published author, her goal is to engage the reader to connect emotionally with the featured animals, encourage support of local zoos, museums and science centers as well as to foster greater awareness of wildlife worldwide.
Her aunt, Charlotte Searls, illustrated the book capturing the unique qualities and expressions of each animal.  Having been an educator for 25 years, she discovered her love and natural talent for painting after she retired.

Faces of the Earth was honored with the Eric Hoffer Award – a national awards program for independent publishers as well as with the da Vinci Eye Award for excellence in design and illustration.  Available in Greensboro at Barnes & Noble or the Natural Science Center where 100% of proceeds go back to the museum, this is a great book to give or receive.

Celebrate The Fresh Market WILD WATERMELON DAY at the Natural Science Center!

TODAY: Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Kick off the dog days of August with the Natural Science Center (NSC) and The Fresh Market at the first ever Wild Watermelon Day taking place on Wednesday, August 4 at the Science Center. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., visitors will get to sample fresh watermelon provided by The Fresh Market, take part in watermelon- themed crafts, games and face-painting activities, and watch animals in
Animal Discovery smash, eat and play with the tasty treat. It will be fun for everyone!

The Natural Science Center will celebrate The Fresh Market Wild Watermelon Day one day after National Watermelon Day held on August 3rd. Yes this is an actual national celebration! Adults and children will be entertained watching how different animals eat and play with the watermelons from tigers who will likely crush them, to otters who may push them around in the water, to the anteater who may stick its long tongue inside to eat it. It will be a surprise to both guests and Zoo Keepers what the animals will do with the summer treat!

“Thanks to our generous partner, The Fresh Market, both visitors and animals will have the opportunity to plunge their teeth, fangs and paws into these healthy, sticky treats for a day of unique and juicy animal fun!” said Glenn Dobrogosz, the NSC’s Executive Director. “We would like to make Wild Watermelon Day a new, annual tradition.”

The Fresh Market will provide 130 tasty, fresh watermelons for the event for all to enjoy. Wild Watermelon Day activities are included in general admission to the Natural Science Center: $7 children/seniors, $8 adults. Members and children under age 2 admitted free-of-charge. Rain date for this event will be Thursday, August 5th at the NSC.

Well, I finally did it… I’m in “skirt! Magazine, Greensboro”!!! I know it seems silly or even a bit crazy, but I’ve been wanting to be in this fabulous FREE magazine for over a year now. It’s all about what’s HOT (yea, even me… he he he) in Greensboro! I was SUPER excited when I received the e-mail asking to be a part of the August Issue!!! All I had to do was come up with a list of “5 Things I’ve learned” (it’s NOT as easy as it sounds! You give it a try!!!) and show for a photo shoot. I was not meant to be a model for sure, but it was fun anyway!!!

What can I say?

When Nora Shoptaw (the editor) called and said we needed to meet at a place to do the photo shoot (I know, I know, it sounds so BIG city!), I started to get a bit panicky about the WHOLE “what to wear” thing!!! My first thought went straight to the accessories, the shoes and then of course, what will I be doing in the photo (thank goodness this wasn’t Sports Illustrated)? I knew I didn’t want to be sitting behind my desk (which I’m not often doing anywho), but I wanted it to be me, my MAC and my coffee… cause that’s how I roll!
